Fellowship Program Overview

Along with exposure and education, residency at AMF is an excellent opportunity for young musicians to develop the necessary skills needed upon entering the world of professional concert artists.

AMF provides complete financial coverage for tuition and housing during the four weeks of residency.

FELLOWSHIP OVERVIEW

AMF fellows are the central focus of the festival. Fellows are included as soloists in festival recitals, chamber musicians, and members of the AMF Orchestra. AMF pays the highest regard for each fellow's individual contributions and talents. The program is open to orchestral instrumentalists (see below), guitarists, pianists, opera singers, one composer, one conductor, and one recording engineer between the ages of 18 and 34.

Below is a complete list of opportunities for instrumental fellows:

  • Tuition and housing are provided at no charge to participants for the duration of the AMF season
  • Opportunities to work with internationally renowned musicians
  • Opportunities to perform in solo recitals and chamber concerts

AMF Fellows are also required to teach and/or work 4 hours per week throughout the duration of the festival. The fellows who are asked to teach additional hours will be paid at a rate of $60 per each additional hour ($30 for half-hour).

Orchestral Instruments*: Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, English Horn, Clarinet, Eb/Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Contrabassoon, French Horn, Trumpet, Tenor Trombone, Bass Trombone, Tuba, Timpani & Percussion, Harp, Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Contrabass

Q: I'm 18 years old. Should I apply as a fellow or as a student?

A: The AMF Institute is dedicated to discovering exceptionally gifted young artists. Although it is difficult to be considered for a fellowship, if you receive an unfavorable result as a fellowship applicant, your application may still be considered for a scholarship review or a placement in one of AMF Institute student programs.
