Fellowship Q & A
Q: How will I know if my online application went through?
A: Within 24 hours of submitting the form, you will receive a confirmation email from us. Please contact us if you do not receive the confirmation email.
Q: I’d like to withdraw my application. What should I do?
A: Please send us an email with your name, discipline/instrument, and reasons for withdrawing your application. The application fee is non-refundable.
Q: What is the tuition? Are there any other fees?
A: AMF fellows receive complete financial coverage for tuition and housing during the six weeks of residency. We require an $100 application fee ($125 if applying on late deadline). Those invited to the program will be assessed a refundable $200 registration deposit and a non-refundable $225 health service fee.
The registration deposit will be refunded in full upon completion of the summer program, subject to deductions in the event of damage or loss to any AMF property. The health service fee provides supplemental insurance and access to the staff nurse for the duration of the festival.
Q: When will I know the results of my audition?
A: Applicants will be notified of the results by February 15, 2010.
Q: I won’t be available for all four weeks. Should I apply anyway?
A: No. All AMF Fellows must be in attendance for the full duration of the festival, arriving by 5:00 p.m. on July 12, 2009 and departing no later than 10:00 a.m. on August 7, 2009. AMF does not permit late arrivals, early departures, and/or absences.
Q: I’m having technical difficulties filling out the online application. What should I do?
A: Please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Q: I don’t have a credit card. Are there other ways to pay for the application fee?
A: You may mail us a check. Please note that all checks must be made payable to Little Feather Works (not Atlantic Music Festival).
Q: How many fellows are accepted?
A: It varies from year to year, but we typically offer up to 50 fellowships per year.
Q: What is the age limit for fellowship?
A: You must be between the ages of 18 and 34.
Q: What is a typical day like?
A: Besides orchestra rehearsal in the morning, the schedule varies from day to day. Afternoons may be devoted to individual practice, chamber music rehearsals, master classes, teaching, and recreation.
Q: Are there opportunities to give concerts?
A: Yes. Our fellows will have plenty of opportunities to give concerts. AMF has four official venues in Waterville, Maine plus other venues to be scheduled around the state of Maine.
Q: Are there opportunities to collaborate with other musicians?
A: Yes. You will have opportunities to collaborate with many of our fellows and guest artists.
Q: I’m a member of an ensemble. Can we apply as a group?
A: Although everyone must submit the application as an individual, AMF provides great opportunities for ensembles. Besides orchestra schedule, our fellows have maximum flexibility when it comes to chamber music schedule, so it is up to our fellows to make the most out of their time at AMF. If you know that members of your ensemble will be applying, please feel free to send us an email with names, type of an ensemble, and any other materials that may be helpful to us.
Q: Do I get lessons as a fellow?
A: No. An important aspect of the fellowship is that we feature our fellows as resident artists, not students. However, we have special guests coming in to give chamber music coaching and master classes to our fellows.
Q: Am I required to teach and/or work?
A: Yes. AMF Fellows are required to teach and/or work 4 hours per week throughout the duration of the festival. The fellows who are asked to teach additional hours will be paid at a rate of $60 per each additional hour ($30 for half-hour).
