The music of Grammy-winning American composer Richard Danielpour will be featured in “As Night Falls…” a very special Atlantic Music Festival preview concert on Saturday, June 27th at 7 PM. Danielpour’s beautiful 4th and 5th String Quartets, and the lyrical “As Night Falls on Barjeantane”, will be performed by the gifted young musicians of the AMF. The concert is free, and will be presented in the Lorimer Chapel on the campus of Colby College in Waterville.
Richard Danielpour’s is a unique and compelling musical voice. His body of work is notable for its vibrant rhythms and emotional richness. Mr. Danielpour is one of the most successful and respected composers of our time. He has been commissioned by the world’s greatest orchestras (including the New York Philharmonic and Philadelphia Orchestras), and ensembles (including the Guarnieri Quartet), and his works have been performed internationally. His compositions include numerous acclaimed chamber and symphonic works, ballets and the opera Margaret Garner (with librettist and Nobel laureate Toni Morrison). He serves on the faculty of the Curtis Institute and the Manhattan School of Music. Mr. Danielpour will be in attendance at this concert, and will also be teaching a master class at the Atlantic Music Festival.
The next Atlantic Music Festival event will be the opening orchestral concert on Saturday, July 4th at 7 PM. Benjamin Schwartz will conduct the AMF Orchestra in a program of Mozart, Beethoven, and patriotic favorites.
The Atlantic Music Festival, in its first season, is a month-long, 15 concert celebration of the world’s finest classical music, performed by stellar young musicians. A wonderful variety of chamber and orchestral works, ranging from Brahms and Mendelssohn, to some of the most exciting new music being composed today, will delight Waterville audiences.
