A project of the AMF Institute's Center for New Music, the pre-college composition program, is a summer intensive for composers between 13 and 17.
During the six weeks, composers gain valuable experience through weekly lessons, daily seminars, and masterclasses. Each participant works toward the goal of premiering a new work written for one of our resident ensembles.
The program leverages groundbreaking courses offered by our collegiate level Composition Program and provides additional fundamentals courses essential for pre-college aged participants, including theory and ear training.
Those enrolled for four weeks or more have access to our Screen Scoring and Future Music Lab programs. Full-summer composers are eligible to participate in various reading sessions scheduled throughout the summer, including orchestra reading sessions.
Shaping the Future of Music
For over a decade, the Composition Program has catalyzed innovation in classical music through more than 500 world premiere performances and groundbreaking programs such as the Future Music Lab, which began as an official collaboration with IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique).
Access courses outside your primary area of focus
