Overview

The AMF Contemporary Ensemble Fellowship was formed with the express purpose of identifying and nurturing musicians who possess extraordinary dedication to advancing the music of our time.

As a resident contemporary ensemble of the festival, members extensively collaborate with AMF composers throughout the festival season. The ensemble frequently performs with artist-faculty members as well as other AMF musicians.

Each AMF Contemporary Ensemble members receive a stipend of $800 in addition to the full coverage of tuition, housing, and meals provided to all fellows.

Program Details

  • Each AMF Contemporary Ensemble members receive a stipend of $800 in addition to the full coverage of tuition, housing, and meals provided to all fellows.

  • Admission to the AMF Contemporary Ensemble is extremely competitive. However, Contemporary Ensemble applicants will be considered for enrollment in the order of Contemporary Ensemble, Resident Artist Fellowship, and Student Programs (if applicable). There is no need to file a separate application as forms have been consolidated as of this year.

  • Applicants are not required to participate in the Contemporary Ensemble. Only those who indicate this preference in the application form will be considered.

  • If involvement in the Contemporary Ensemble is not your first choice, we encourage you to focus on your application to our Student or Resident Artist Fellowship Programs. The Audition Committee is seeking musicians with serious passion for new music.

  • The festival also offers Future Music Lab fellowship, an electronic music focused program for instrumentalists. Applicants to the Contemporary Ensemble are also eligible to be considered for the Future Music Lab. Click here for more details.

Audition Requirements

Those interested should complete the online application and upload the following material via our online application site.

  • To qualify, you must submit two pieces written during the 20th (or 21st) century in addition to meeting the standard audition requirements for AMF Resident Artist Fellowship. Single movements are accepted.
