Overview

Atlantic Music Festival Instrumental provides an immersive six-week summer experience filled with music-making at the highest level. Through a combination of lessons, master classes, and performances, participants learn from world-renowned faculty members and collaborate with exceptional peers.

Participants have access to core seminars offered by the AMF Institute, including Future Music Lab seminars. The festival provides an abundant collaborative ecosystem where students are encouraged to learn in partnership with Piano Institute, Collaborative Piano Program, Composition Program, and Vocal Institute.

HIGHLIGHTS

The program features a selection of components based on 2-week, 4-week, or 6-week enrollment.

PRIVATE INSTRUCTIONS

Student participants receive private instructions from Atlantic Music Festival's artist-faculty members at least three times per session.

SEMINARS AND MASTERCLASSES

Attend seminars hosted by our artist-faculty members and masterclasses featuring our special guests. Topics covered include technique, repertoire, interpretation, stage presence, contemporary music, audition technique, and music career.

CHAMBER MUSIC

Chamber Music program provides a unique opportunity for musicians to grow and make friends in an intimate and collaborative setting. Over the years, many permanent chamber music groups arose out of this effort which are still in existence today.

CONTEMPORARY PERFORMANCE

The Atlantic Music Festival has established its legacy as a breeding ground for groundbreaking new works, with over 400 original works premiered since its inception. Take part in our mission of supporting the living composers and their music through active collaboration and performance.

FESTIVAL CHOIR

The Atlantic Music Festival Choir is a special place where participants from all backgrounds are welcome to join in and come together as one to create a beautiful choral landscape. The choir takes on a range of repertoire, covering great choral works of the past as well as groundbreaking new works.

ATLANTIC MUSIC FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA

The Atlantic Music Festival Orchestra provides a unique training ground for musicians with performances of repertoire ranging from traditional to modern music.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

Numerous performance opportunities are available, including recitals, chamber music concerts, as well as collaborative performance opportunities with other departments, including the Vocal Institute and Composition Program. Full-Session participants can take part in our annual concerto competition, where the winner performs with the AMF Orchestra.

FUTURE MUSIC LAB SEMINARS

The project began as an official collaboration with IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique). Access unique courses including Programming for Musicians, MaxMSP Bootcamp, and electronic music seminars.

ACCESS PERFORMANCE RECORDINGS

Participants have access to high-definition recordings of festival performances created by our professional engineering team.

Audition Intensive Image

Audition Intensive

Audition Intensive is a special program designed for students preparing for an upcoming audition at a conservatory or a musical institution.

The goal of the program is to help participants channel their focus during the festival in order to create a successful audition portfolio during and after the festival season.

Brass Intensive Image

Brass Intensive (Session 1)

Available during session one, Brass Intensive is a two-week program designed for trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba, and euphonium players.

The program's goal is to provide a deep immersion into the brass ensemble and chamber music repertoire. The intensive includes daily performance seminars and coachings from faculty members, culminating in concert performance.

The program complements participants of the Audition Intensive course and provides coverage of a successful strategy for audition portfolio creation during and after the festival season.

Double Bass Intensive Image

Double Bass Intensive (Sessions 1 & 2)

Available during sessions one and two, Double Bass Intensive is a program designed to provide a deep immersion for students looking to master the instrument.

The program's daily seminars and performance classes complement participants of the Audition Intensive course with coverage of a successful strategy for audition portfolio creation during and after the festival season.

The program is led by Donald Palma during Session One and James Van Demark during Session Two.

Audition Requirements

Those interested should complete the online application and upload the following material via our online application site.

  • Submit audio or video recordings of three contrasting works. It is highly recommended that you submit at least one work written during or after the twentieth century. It is possible to submit movements of works. Selections must represent your current level of musicianship.

  • Recommendations are optional.
